According to new market share numbers from IDC, the International Data Corporation, Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system is now in third place worldwide. It snatches the position previously held by BlackBerry which is now in fourth place; or in other words, the land of mediocrity. This past quarter, IDC reports that Windows Phone accounted for 3.2 percent of worldwide phone shipments. BlackBerry accounted for 2.9 percent. Nokia has officially announced a new member of its smartphone range – Lumia 925. The device is pretty much improved version of the existing Lumia 920, dumping polycarbonate for more durable (and sexier) aluminum. The new Lumia is also thinner and lighter than its predecessor, while the rest of the specs are pretty much the same — i.e. it comes with a 4.5-inch 1280×768 OLED screen, 8.7MP rear camera, 1.5GHz Qualcomm MSM8960 dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and so on. Today in a London press event, Nokia introduced its latest Windows Phone handset, the Lumia 925. One of the flagship features of the 925 is its PureView 2 camera, which offers 8.7 megapixels of resolution and 30FPS 1080p HD video recording. Huawei is bringing its Ascend W1 smartphone to the United States. The Windows Phone 8-powered device will be available later this month at Walmart.com and at select Walmart stores across the country.
