That “plus” is well deserved since the new device looks much better than the original Gleam model. Moreover, specs are also bumped up, though at its core Gleam+ remains a feature phone.

Speaking of specs, this fancy fella’ rocks a 2.8-inch WQVGA (240×400 pixels) internal display, external screen comprised of 144 LEDs, 2-megapixel camera with fixed focus, Bluetooth 2.1, FM radio, 3.5mm headset jack, and 50MB of built-in storage that is further expandable with microSD memory cards.

Moto will ask 99 EUR for the unlocked, SIM-free Gleam+, with carriers most likely giving it away to anyone willing to put his/her signature on a new two-year customer agreement. Heck you’ll most likely be able to get the phone for free even with 12- and 18-month contracts.

Personally I like the new phone — it looks like a fancier version of RAZR2 — but since it doesn’t run any smartphone OS, I’m afraid I’ll have to skip it…

After the iPhone app, Staples is going for the Android community and folks with tablets (whether it’s an Android-based one or the iPad). To that end, the company launched a native app for smartphones running Google’s mobile platform and a tablet-optimized website.

First the smartphone app. As you can imagine, it puts Staples inventory at your fingertips, mixing the best of the Staples.com and in-store shopping experience. You can access the “rich product information” all with ratings and reviews while in-store, or find the nearest Staples store with the specific product you need by using the store locator and inventory check feature. Additionally, the application also provides more ways to save via store check-in feature which offers special coupons and promotions when a customer enters a Staples store with their smartphone.

As for the tablet website, it’s located at t.staples.com, delivering content in an easy to use format. You can swipe between pages and quickly search for products. There are options to quickly re-order office supplies like ink and toner, and to review your purchase history…

Just as promised, Samsung has released its 90 second Galaxy Note ad during the Super Bowl. Following in the lines of its previous ads for the Galaxy S II (with a bit of a twist), this Galaxy Note ad pokes fun at iPhone users waiting in the long lines Apple loves to see outside its stores and shows them what “freedom” feels like. We think.

We already got a chance to play with the Galaxy Note at CES this past January and while the idea of a 5.3 inch phone sounds a bit ridiculous, we were surprised to see just how pocketable the handset is. That said, despite its thin profile and stunning Super AMOLED HD display, it just might be too much phone for some people.

AT&T-bound and up for pre-order starting today, the Galaxy Note is proof that a device this large can be popular. We’re sure Dell is feeling a little silly right now, as Samsung has shown the company what the Streak 5 could have been.

The Galaxy Note is essentially a larger Galaxy Nexus with TouchWiz (and LTE) but it Samsung has also introduced the S Pen with the US variant of the Phoneblet. While we question if stylus-pens will catch on, as it seems ancient these days, the S Pen has some pretty nifty features when paired with the Note. We’ve seen similar implementations from HTC with its Flyer tablet, which failed to impress. But at this point in Android land, if anyone could make a stylus somewhat popular, it would have to be Samsung.

While we do like the way Samsung pokes at the Apple fans of the world with its ad-campaign, we would have preferred a brand new ad instead of something recycled. Nonetheless, we’ll have to see if the commercial was effective when the handset lands on the 19th. Already sold? Head over to AT&T’s site to secure your Galaxy Note now.

Head over here to see our hands-on with the Galaxy Note at CES and check out the new ad below!

What do you think of the ad? Effective or “over the top”?

US Cellular has officially announced its first two LTE devices for its yet-to-be-born network in the form of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the Galaxy S Aviator. The devices will launch in March and April, with no shred of pricing details to be found.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is easily the most popular Android tablet available today (although not the most powerful), if you’re not counting the Kindle Fire, of course. The large, 1280 x 800 display is coupled with the NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core SoC, along with a very thin profile. It’s also the very same tablet that has been put under fire multiple times by Apple. Nonetheless, it’s a solid device that should excite some of the US Cellular faithful.

The second device, the Galaxy S Aviator looks exactly like the Droid Charge we saw land on Verizon back in May last year. The Aviator is rocking a 4.3 inch WVGA Super AMOLED Plus display, 8 megapixel rear camera, front-facing camera, HDMI port, and Android 2.3.6. We can’t say that the Droid Charge was our favorite phone when it debuted but it’s still decent device that would pair well with the Galaxy Tab 10.1 if you were going for a Samsung double-play.

The Galaxy Tab is set to be released sometime in March and the Aviator will follow shortly in April. If you’re a US Cellular customer looking for the some LTE love, you’ve got two pretty nice options coming your way.

U.S. CELLULAR ANNOUNCES LAUNCH OF 4G LTE NETWORK NEXT MONTH ALONG WITH UPCOMING DEVICES

Brings up to 10 times faster download speeds and better web browsing experience

CHICAGO (Feb. 1, 2012) – U.S. Cellular, in conjunction with its partner, King Street Wireless, is launching a 4G LTE network next month that will enhance the wireless experience with countless entertainment possibilities and help customers simplify and organize their lives. The 4G LTE network will cover 25 percent of U.S. Cellular’s customers and will coincide with the launch of the Android-powered Samsung Galaxy Tab™ 10.1 4G LTE mobile tablet followed shortly by the Samsung Galaxy S® Aviator™ 4G LTE smartphone.

4G LTE speeds allow customers to begin watching a movie in seconds and enjoy smoother video streaming with little to no buffering, and video chatting with family or business colleagues is seamless.

With the Samsung Galaxy S® Aviator™, customers have the ability to talk and access the Internet at the same time. They can talk to their family about dinner plans while downloading an app to find nearby restaurants and simultaneously check out reviews online.

The March rollout of 4G LTE includes select cities in Iowa, Wisconsin, Maine, North Carolina, Texas and Oklahoma, including some of U.S. Cellular’s leading markets such as Milwaukee, Madison and Racine, Wis.; Des Moines, Cedar Rapids and Davenport, Iowa; Portland and Bangor, Maine; and Greenville, N.C. U.S. Cellular is the first wireless carrier to offer 4G LTE in several of these markets. The next wave of market launches will be announced later this month.

“With 4G LTE speeds, you can quickly get what you want when you need it,” said Mary N. Dillon, president and CEO of U.S. Cellular. “This 4G LTE network builds upon our industry-leading network satisfaction and is the only one that comes with a valuable rewards program and other unique benefits like Overage Protection and Battery Swap that make our customers the happiest in wireless.”

The Samsung Galaxy Tab™ 10.1 is powered by Android 3.2 (Honeycomb) and has a 10.1-inch WXGA TFT touchscreen. It features superior multi-tasking capabilities, a video watching experience similar to TV and smooth graphics and responsive controls for faster gaming. Apps are downloaded faster on the sleek Samsung Galaxy S® Aviator™ smartphone that comes with Android 2.3.6 (Gingerbread). It has a 4.3-inch WVGA s-AMOLED plus touchscreen, 8 megapixel rear camera and front-facing camera for easy video chatting. Both devices will provide download and browser speeds that are up to 10 times faster than 3G and be similar to a cable Internet connection.

The 4G LTE network builds on the 3G data services that U.S. Cellular customers already enjoy on the carrier’s high-quality nationwide network. U.S. Cellular has the highest call quality and network satisfaction of any national carrier. For more information about the 4G LTE experience, visit uscellular.com/4G.

Amazon just announced its 4th quarter earnings and dropped a few pieces of information pertaining to its growing Android application store. Even if it’s not your go-to Android application portal, Amazon’s App Store is worth having around just for the free app of the day and according to its latest earnings report, its application store is growing faster than ever.

Amazon App Store customers tripled quarter over quarter, which is a pretty impressive stat on its own. We can no doubt thank the introduction of the Kindle Fire to be the main fuel of this growth but without solid numbers, it’s hard to really gauge just how well the App Store is doing. That said, while there may be more than one place to go to get Android apps, the chance that you’re going to Amazon (if not the Android Market itself) is pretty great.

Another impressive nugget from the press release is that Amazon App Store customers downloaded more applications in the fourth quarter than any previous quarter combined. Again, this is likely due to the Kindle Fire, as it does not have access to the official Android Market, so if you’re getting apps on your Fire, it’s from Amazon directly.

In no way are we surprised by this sort of information from Amazon but we’re still wishing that some solid numbers would have been introduced in the press release. Either way, this trend will likely continue going forward and maybe Amazon would be nice enough to share real stats come next quarter.

If you’re rocking an Android phone, how often do you use the Amazon App Store?

There have been rumors that the Galaxy S III wouldn’t make its debut at Mobile World Congress this year, which could possibly make one believe that the Super Bowl ad could indeed be for the upcoming flagship handset but let’s consider the facts.

Both the Galaxy S and Galaxy S II initially launched outside of the US and we don’t see that trend changing any time soon.

While it’s a nice thought that Samsung would advertise the Galaxy S III for the Super Bowl, the US likely won’t see the handset until at least the 3rd quarter of the year.

The Galaxy Note on the other hand makes a lot of sense. We already have an official release date for AT&T and the phone has been in Europe since October of 2011.

The Galaxy Note has been getting quite a bit of attention lately, and while the phone is definitely going to be too big for some people, it’ll likely be a hit with others. It only took two months for the obscenely large device to sell a million units but having that beautiful HD Super AMOLED display in your face could easily sway some naysayers.

It’s funny to think that Dell released the Streak 5 and it seemed to have been a flop, with the biggest complaint being that it was unnecessarily large. Fast forward to today and we have Samsung releasing a similar product with a bigger display and it’s generating a lot of hype. If only, Dell. If only.

Well, it may not be the Galaxy S III but here’s to Samsung and its first Super Bowl ad.

[UPDATE: The Galaxy Note was confirmed on Samsung's Google+ page] Thanks, Androinica!

It’s been a while since we’ve heard the name Notion Ink being thrown around but it’s resurfaced with the promise of the Adam II. No real details for the upcoming tablet have been released, other than the fact that the Indian company has partnered with Texas Instruments to run the show and that the device will ship with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Before the original Adam was released, I was very intrigued by the tablet’s capabilities and wanted one as soon as I could get Notion Ink to take my money. Then we saw the unique custom user interface, Eden. The UI looked promising but it ended up being quite the mess. That, and other issues with updates that caused the tablet to brick itself just weren’t making the tablet all it was cracked up to be.

Luckily, like a movie that was ultimately disappointing at the box office but made enough to warrant a sequel, Notion Ink is bringing the Adam II to market. Whether or not the device will sport an optional Pixel Qi display like the original or just be a run of the mill tablet is still in question but we’d imagine that Notion Ink has learned a lot from the launch of its first tablet.

The original Adam seemed full of promise but turned out to be a standard Android tablet with a cool screen and crappy UI. Whatever the company brings to the table with this upcoming tablet should at very least be quite the upgrade from its predecessor, and that’s got to count for something. Maybe. Hopefully. We’ll see.

Would you consider grabbing a tablet from Notion Ink or would you rather wait and see what other companies will be bringing to the table in the coming months? Would you prefer a Tegra 3 SoC in your next tablet or would you opt for TI’s offerings?

Size wise, the tablet measures 245×151.4×9.34 mm and has a weight of 497 grams.

At the moment, Android 3.2 Honeycomb is running the show, though we’re confident the Ice Cream Sandwich update is in works as we speak.

Unfortunately, we’ve no idea when the Optimus Pad LTE will be available outside of Korean peninsula and can only hope that will happen sooner rather than later…

NVIDIA won’t limit its Tegra 3 processor to mobile devices like tablets and smartphones (though we still haven’t seen a single smartphone boasting the company’s quad-core CPU) — they’re going for cars, as well. Audi is the first car company (as far as we know) that will integrate the powerful processor in its vehicles starting from 2013, with Tegra 3 powering up in-vehicle infotainment systems as well as new digital instrument clusters that replace traditional dashboard gauges. Both systems will utilize Tegra 3 “Visual Computing Modules” (VCMs), which include processors, memory and IO controllers, designed specifically for automotive applications.

The tight integration of these systems with the vehicle, as well as their simple user-interface and realistic graphics, will enable safer, more intuitive driving by providing critical information that can be easily understood with a quick glance.

Now that’s all cool but there’s only one problem – by 2013 NVIDIA (and other chip makers for that matter) will launch something even more powerful. I guess we have Audi rather than NVIDIA to blame for this. It [Audi] is not the tech company per se and is thus slower to adopt the latest technology…
