Sony Xperia U now available on Three UK

Three is the first British carrier to offer the Sony Xperia U. You know, we’re talking about Sony’s mid-level device that comes with rather small (by today’s standards) 3.5-inch screen. However, it does rock some personalization options like that annoying illuminating strip at the base of the phone which changes color to match the dominant color of the screen, as well as customizable caps that slot on to the bottom of the phone. Moreover, the Xperia U also sports a 5-megapixel camera with Exmor R sensor and fast 1.5 second Read more

ZTE Score ships with major security flaw

ZTE, best known for being one of the biggest mobile phone manufacturers in China, recently launched the Score in the United States. Well, it looks like the company isn’t getting off to a very good start. It just confirmed a security hole in the device that could potentially allow others to remotely control it. The so-called backdoor was being used by ZTE to update the phone’s software. It seems this vulnerability is the result of careless programming. “I have never seen this before,” said Dmitri Alperovitch, co-founder of security startup CrowdStrike. Read more

T-Mobile’s Samsung Galaxy S III hits the FCC

We did know T-Mobile will be one of the U.S. carriers to offer the shiny new Samsung Galaxy S III. Their specific version of the device, marked as T999, has not only crossed the FCC hurdle, but has also be spotted at Bluetooth SIG (while its Wi-Fi certificate has been issued before). What this means is that Samsung is finalizing paperwork for the Big Day, which will (as promised) take place at some point this summer. We’ve no idea whether the Magenta carrier will change the name of the phone Read more

NTT DoCoMo’s Samsung Galaxy S III ships with 2GB of RAM, Qualcomm’s dual-core processor

Just when we thought LG is the only handset maker with a smartphone that rocks 2GB of RAM, NTT DoCoMo and Samsung unveiled a version of the Galaxy S III (SC-06D) with the same amount of RAM. Set to hit Japan sometime “this summer,” this particular device will also ship with Qualcomm’s dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, rather than Samsung’s quad-core one. So we’re wondering – is that extra gig of RAM there to make things run smoothly on a dual-core processor? Two cores are not good enough for the proper Read more
