A few weeks ago, OLED-info.com reported that Nokia (NYSE: NOK) are using two OLED panel suppliers – Samsung and TPO. The latest update is that TPO has some technical issues, and are not yet supplying panels to Nokia… oops!
TPO plans to launch their first product later this year – a 3″ (or a bit larger) WVGA panel for mobile phones. This panel is already in development. In 1H 2010 TPO will release a 3″ VGA panel aimed for digital cameras, and in 2H 2010 a 4″ WVGA panel for mobile phones.
Of course, all very nice, but no panel for Nokia in the short-term – ouch, that’s gotta hurt inventory-wise, but I’d imagine Samsung will happily take up the slack!
Crikey, just when you thought Rogers’ price of $79.99 was not a bad deal for the HTC Dream and Magic… Future Shop comes along and undercuts them. Yessir, for a limited time (until August 13th) Future Shop has the same HTC Dream and Magic up-for-grabs for a measly $49.99. Ridiculous. Now I’m REALLY wondering if some new Android goodness is on its way to Canada.
For all the details, check out the HTC Dream (Black or White) and HTC Magic over at Future Shop. $50 bucks… Yikes… I’m half tempted.
Note: You’ve only got ’til August 13th to take advantage of this offer… and it is only available in-store.
Chalk this up to poor sales, or thoughtful execs looking to save the consumer a few bucks (I’ll take poor sales)… The HTC Magic and HTC Dream have dropped in price yet again on Rogers (NYSE: RCI). Currently both device will run you $79.99 on a 3-year term. I suppose this could also be a sign that something new is on the way, perhaps the much talked-about and drooled-over HTC Hero, but I’ve heard nothing of the sort yet. We’ll have to wait and see.
For all the details and current pricing, head on over to Rogers.
Samsung has announced two mid-range slider phones for its domestic Korean market — W8400 and W8700 Honey Bubble — both of which will be available for purchase through the country’s KT operator.
The first of the two (pictured on the right) comes with a 2.4-inch QVGA screen, 3.6Mbps HSDPA, SOS function, GPS, microSD slot, and a specially designed battery cover for better grip. We don’t have the pricing information at the moment.
As for the more fancier model, W8700 Honey Bubble, it’s called like that because of the patterns on the back of the phone. Highlights of this model include T-DMB mobile TV receiver, 2-megapixel camera, pre-installed subway maps, M-Commerce, media player, and microSD memory card slot. The W8700 will be sold for 400,000 Won, which is about $325…
Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) certainly needs some growth these days and in that sense they’ve pushed their recently announced Sony Ericsson T715a (where “a” stands for America) through FCC’s approval process. The 3G bands found on the phone (850/1900 MHz) are ready to sing along AT&T (NYSE: T)’s and Rogers (NYSE: RCI) Wireless’ network, and in that sense we wouldn’t be surprised to see this baby officially announced by any of the two carriers in the near future.
Specs wise, the T715(a) comes with a 2.2-inch QVGA screen, 3.2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, media player, FM radio, and (finally for Sony Ericsson) microSD memory card slot.
For the record, the European version of the device (without “a”) has also been approved by the Commission…
Remember the Samsung m850 which we caught at invisibleSHIELD/ZAGG’s website? At that point, we thought it will be Sprint (NYSE: S)’s next killer Instinct device and it seems it’s gearing toward the launch. The phone has been cleared by the FCC, and has also been spotted “in the wild.” We don’t have much details to report at this stage, except that it’s an all-touchscreen EV-DO ready device, which can also connect on your local (or not local) WiFi network. Release date is unknown at this stage, and the same goes for pricing…
IntoMobile’s UK Bureau Chief, Ben, just got his hands on the GSM variant of the Novatel MiFi 2352 Total Mobile Internet device, and we’ve got the video to prove it! We’ve been playing with the Sprint (NYSE: S) and Verizon (NYSE: VZ) MiFi variants for a few months now, but those have been CDMA units locked to their respective carriers. The launch of the GSM MiFi 2352 heralds in a new age of unlocked portable 3G hotspots that can roam GSM networks with abandon. Of course, the GSM MiFi is still a Europe-only deal, but we’re biting our nails in anticipation of the US launch.
The HTC Touch Pro2 is tops in the enterprise smarpthone market. HTC made sure that their Touch Pro2’s slide-out QWERTY keyboard and huge touchscreen display were good enough to best the Nokia (NYSE: NOK) N97, as confirmed by IntoMobile’s own Nokia N97 vs HTC Touch Pro2 showdown. But, in that quest for business-phone domination, HTC forgot about one little detail that makes a huge difference – the 3.5mm headphone jack. The European unlocked GSM and the T-Mobile Touch Pro2 variants both lack anything resembling a standard headphone jack, forcing the user to use a headphone-to-extUSB adapter when listening to music on their own headphones. So, imagine are glee upon seeing Engadget’s pics of the Sprint (NYSE: S) HTC Touch Pro2 hardware sporting a true 3.5mm headphone jack beside the extUSB port!
Aside from the Sprint logo, tweaked color-scheme and battery cover, and headphone jack, the Sprint HTC Touch Pro2 looks a lot like the unlocked GSM HTC Touch Pro2. But, with the addition of the lowly 3.5mm jack, the Pro2 magically morphs into a respectable media-phone. The Sprint Pro2 is still a sizable smartphone that would never get confused for a musicphone, but it should now hold its own against media-centric smartphones. Well done, Sprint!
We’ve heard quite many a rumor surrounding the Motorola Morrison over the past little while. The Morrison is slated to be Moto’s first entry into the Android scene, and there are many folks out there eagerly awaiting its arrival… if for nothing else than having another device choice for Android.
As covered earlier, we knew the BlackBerry Curve 8520 was coming to Vodafone (NYSE: VOD) UK in the near future. Sure enough, over the weekend I noticed the BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) Curve 8520 is indeed now available at Vodafone UK for general consumption.
As I expected, the device is available for FREE on all available plans… Ugh, you lucky folks over there in the UK get all of the free devices you can handle, don’t you? Over here North-American side the free device on-contract isn’t quite as typical… That is, unless your own shop happens to be selling the 8520 for free on-contract as well! Check out the IntoMobile Shop to pick up your BlackBerry 8520 for free (We have it available in ‘Frost‘ and Black).
At any rate, the 8520 is available right now from Vodafone UK on monthly plans starting at £25. For all the details hit up Vodafone UK.
