Samsung’s newly announced Galaxy Tab 3 has been caught at the FCC as the company is preparing to start selling the tablet later this month. The unit government-paid engineers got to play with is a Wi-Fi only model that will only later be followed with 3G-enabled version.

If you recall, the Galaxy Tab 3 is a low-to-mid range tablet with specs that include a 7-inch 1024×600 pixels screen, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 3-megapixel rear camera, 1.3-megapixel front-facing one, 8 or 16 GB of internal storage, and a memory card slot if that’s not enough for you. In other words, if you want something better – you should go for the Galaxy Note 8.0.

At the time Samsung announced the new tablet, it failed to mention the price. We tend to think this model won’t break anyone’s bank — quite the contrary, it should be offered for some $100 to $200 with a contract. Perhaps even less…

According to a new filing from the FCC, T-Mobile is planning on releasing the Sony Xperia Z on its network. We heard a rumor suggesting the device was making its way to T-Mobile last month, and the FCC filing nudges that rumor closer to reality. The FCC filing shows a version of the Xperia Z that will take advantage of T-Mobile’s HSPA+ and LTE network. Alongside the FCC filing are some photos of the device, which resemble pictures of the international version of the unit.

The Xperia Z touts a 5.0 inch TFT 1920×1080 display running on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and powered by a quad-core 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The unit has 13MP rear Exmor RS camera, a 2 MP front-facing camera and is water-resistant for up to 30 minutes of exposure.

Although we have not heard official word about the Sony Xperia Z coming to T-Mobile, the FCC filing confirms that T-Mobile indeed has the device prepped for a release. When that will happen remains to be seen, so check back with us for more developments.

Moreover, there’s 3G (HSPA) radio on board as well as 1,580mAh Li-ion battery.

Geeksphone Keon has cleared the FCC, allowing government-employed engineers to play with one of the first Firefox OS-based devices before the rest of the world.

If you recall, this is an entry-level device, one that comes with a 3.5-inch HVGA screen and 1GHz single-core processor. Moreover, there’s 3G (HSPA) radio on board as well as 1,580mAh Li-ion battery.

We doubt the Keon will be available in the U.S. through any carrier, but if you’re eager to join Firefox’s mobile revolution, you’ll be able to buy one of these from importers for some $120 and then use it on AT&T’s network — cause you won’t get 3G with no other major carrier.

We’re still kinda skeptical about Firefox OS’ prospects but that doesn’t mean a thing. First of all, it’s first target are emerging markets of the world and only after it proves there, it will find its way to the West. In the meantime, we have Android, iOS, Windows Phone and BlackBerry to play around…

In a memo issued today, the White House stated its opposition to the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA), at least in its current form. Stating privacy concerns, the memo made it clear that President Obama would veto the bill as it stands now.

“Citizens have a right to know that corporations will be held accountable – and not granted immunity – for failing to safeguard personal information adequately,” the memo states. “Moreover, the Administration is confident that such measures can be crafted in a way that is not overly onerous or cost prohibitive on the businesses sending the information.”

CISPA is reportedly up for a vote on the floor of the United States House this week, possibly as soon as tomorrow (Weds.). The bill’s stated goal is to help the U.S government investigate cyber threats and ensure the security of networks against cyberattack. To this end, CISPA would allow for the sharing of Internet traffic information between the U.S. government and certain technology and manufacturing companies.

But privacy activists such the Electronic Frontier Foundation have criticized the bill for having weak limits on how and when the government may monitor an individual’s Internet browsing information, and they fear that such new powers could be used to spy on the general public rather than to pursue hackers or cyber terrorists.

Apparently the Obama administration agrees with their fears, at least to an extent. The memo is very clear that the White House wants change to CISPA, not do away with the bill and they ”stands ready” to work with the House Intelligence Committee and other lawmakers to “incorporate our core priorities” into the final bill.

Congressman Mike Rogers (R-Mich.) of the House Intelligence Committee disagreed with the President saying, “You can’t get more oversight on making sure that people’s personally identifiable information is protected than the way we structured it in this bill.”

Not that it doesn’t need a boost from the carrier sales, but if I were at AT&T – I would go for the Xperia Z, which is the only water-resistant and dust-proof high-end smartphone sold in the West. In any case, we’ll let you know as soon as we hear something new on this. Stay tuned in the meantime…

Samsung’s newly announced Galaxy Note 8.0 has been caught at the FCC but unfortunately, this isn’t the version you’ll want to buy. The reason is simple – it’s neither a Wi-Fi only model (for those who don’t want another carrier contract) nor a 4G LTE-enabled one. Rather, it’s stuck to 3G speeds which may be good for some folks whereas some others will find them insufficient.

That said, we’re hoping that a full-blown LTE version will soon follow footsteps of its 3G cousin and get’s FCC’s seal of approval only to be introduced in the States soon afterwards.

Again, the Galaxy Note 8.0 rocks an 8-inch 1280×800 pixels touchscreen, 1.6GHz Exynos 4 Quad processor, 2GB of RAM, GPS + GLONASS, dual cameras, 4,600mAh battery, while Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean is running the show (with Sammy’s customizations). You can check out our impressions with the device from here…

The Nokia Lumia 520 has been once again spotted at the FCC. However, this time we’re talking about a model (marked as RM-915) that can sing along GSM-based networks of AT&T and Canada’s Rogers Wireless, namely 850 and 1900 MHz bands. The earlier version (RM-914), in case you wonder, was made for European and Asian markets, connecting on 900 and 2100 MHz. Naturally, FCC doesn’t tell us anything about launch date nor whether AT&T will actually be offering this entry-level Windows Phone. Then again, with phones like these, it’s not really important whether some carrier will sell them or not – the Lumia 520 will cost some $150 sans any strings attached, helping Microsoft grow its market share.

Anyway, the Lumia 520 comes with a 4-inch WVGA screen, 1GHz dual-core processor, 5-megapixel rear camera, 512MB of RAM, and 8GB of built-in storage that can be further expanded with microSD cards.
