In Accessories
Finally, someone figured out to make separated Bluetooth stereo speakers. Boomboxes are good while you’re on a picnic, or visiting a friend to showcase him your new accessory — but for home use they just don’t do the job (trust me on this one). Not that you should be satisfied without a sub-woofer, but when you’re out of space – two satellites are good enough solution.
Naturally, the Samsin SBS-6600 Bluetooth speakers are A2DP compatible and can playback music for up to 6 hours. In stand-by mode, Samsin promises that the twins will work for up to 360 hours, after which the built-in Li-Polymer needs to be recharged. Read the full article »

In Devices
While we’re still for the major handset makers to announce a device that can support 2 SIM cards, Chinese manufacturers are already doing so. But wait, they’ve just went one step further — there’s a device that can take up to 3 (yes that’s “three”) SIM cards.

Gizmodo has gotten confirmation from Sprint (NYSE: S)’s insider that the carrier is preparing to launch the Palm Gandolf and BlackBerry Pearl 2 later this year.
Palm (NSDQ: PALM) Gandolf, or as they call it “Gandolfini”, will retail for around $200, making it one of the most affordable smartphones on the market. Gandolf will target teenagers who text message frequently — in that sense, they describe it as “a [Treo] 700p that got in a nasty accident with a steamroller.” Read the full article »

How much does this thing cost? Do you really have to ask? Vertu’s Diamonds Signature collection was released in November 2005 and apparently has done well enough that they’re adding another member to the family. The Pink Diamonds Vertu is made out of rose gold and will be available in limited quantities in a limited number of Vertu stores around the world.
Pretty, isn’t she?

Open C is a feature of the S60 operating system that makes porting applications written in C ridiculously easy. Read more about it on Forum Nokia:
Symbian recently introduced four of the basic POSIX libraries on Symbian OS. With Open C, S60 is implementing five additional C libraries built on open source projects including OpenSSL, GNOME, and LIBZ.
Open C helps optimize porting of open source and desktop applications to S60 on Symbian OS.
In order to kick start the developers creative juices Nokia (NYSE: NOK) will begin a content in July with a prize valued at $10,000. Join the Open C challenge if you think you have what it takes. A few open source applications I would like to see ported to S60:
- A robust PDF viewer that will never choke, regardless of how complicated my PDF is.
- Samba support so I can connect my shared network drives to my mobile phone. Music streaming anyone?
- VLC aka the media player that was created because the developers at Real over use the word buffering.
- FTP client
- A better PIM since the one built into S60 is quite honestly trash.

Great Scott! OmniVision is currently sampling a quarter inch image sensor that can fit into current 8 x 8 mm sockets on mobile phone motherboards. Device manufacturers currently using 2 megapixel camera sensors could just drop this in and it will seamlessly work. This bad boy does 3 megapixels and best of all: image stabilization!

Nokia will be sponsering, for the third year in a row, the Leipzig GC Developers Conference. Diarmuid Feeny, Nokia (NYSE: NOK)’s Games Business Manager says:
“With the arrival of our new N-Gage platform later this year, GCDC 2007 is at an important time for us.”
“We are proud to be a platinum sponsor for the third year running as well as the exclusive sponsor of GCDC Night.”
The show is from August 20 – 22. We’ll be keeping a close eye.

This kicks Twitter in the balls and then makes love to its mother. Jonathan Greene takes a stab at reviewing the latest beta of the S60 Jaiku client and he does a great job, but if you’re going to watch the video you should definitely read his editorial about why the aggregation features make this microblogging platform the best one on the market.
It is a shame they didn’t create this application in Java. S60 is popular, but definitely not as widespread as J2ME phones.
