Just selling computers isn’t good enough for Dell. The company wants a piece of the ever-growing VoIP market and has launched its own such offering in Canada.

Dubbed Dell Voice, the new service is powered by Fongo, providing users with a Canadian phone number and the ability to make free calls to numbers in 30 large metropolitan areas, including Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, as well as hundreds of smaller cities. Incoming calls from Canada are free as well, while international calls are competitively priced — i.e. cheaper than Skype. For instance, calls to the U.S. and U.K. cost just 2 c/min.

Aside from the basic phone calls, Dell Voice also offers call display, call waiting, voicemail and even the 911 emergency service. Moreover, users have the option to port their existing phone number over to Fongo for $25.

The free to download application is available for Android, iPhone, Windows desktop and, soon for BlackBerry. It works both over 3G/4G and Wi-Fi networks.

Finally, it’s worth adding that we’re pretty confident Dell is using Canada as a testbed market, and will soon launch its service in the U.S.

Warner Music Group reported some great news for digital growth in the company’s October-to-December third quarter. The giant music publishing company’s digital revenue grew 15 percent in recorded music and 36 percent in music publishing, as these numbers were helped by iTunes expansion along with consumer adoption of Spotify.

What’s even more impressive about WMG’s third quarter is the company hit a milestone, as U.S. digital music unit sales surpassed those from physical for the first time. Also, revenue from digital music is far and away ahead of music streaming, with $204 million compared to just $15 million.

Spotify has yet to make a huge impact, but this could be due to Warner Music coming on board late. The company did acknowledge that it envisions Spotify’s unlimited-subscription model to be its future, as it shows better growth with subscribers locked in to paying a $120 a year premium.

“That flow of dollars is substantially greater than the average annual purchases with respect to an iTunes user.” CEO Cooper told analysts, “Both downloads and streaming provide us with meaningful economics. I’m personally agnostic – although you can draw your own conclusions from the streaming payments versus average iTunes users’ (payments).”

This news proves that publishing companies were overly paranoid when it came to fully embracing the unlimited-subscription model that’s offered from the Spotify’s or Rdio’s of the world. Warner Music Group flat-out admitted it’s more profitable for music publishing companies in the long-term. It’s good to see these guys finally come around, but I guess profits will do that.

The newly launched Yahoo! App Search spans iOS and Android apps, though Android titles are at the moment more prominently placed on the site.

You can either browse through categories or search for the games and apps you like. The search is especially neat, allowing for filtering through results by price, category and device (iPhone/Android). When you think about it – this works much better than the default Android Market.

Speaking of which, Yahoo pulls the app description and user comments from the Android Market, while iPhone users will have to click on the link and actually visit Apple’s AppStore to read what other folks think about certain apps.

Now we’re not sure what Yahoo is planning to do going forward. Will they include Windows Phone apps as well? What about other platforms? Guess we’ll have to wait and see. In the meantime, you’re free to check out the Yahoo! App Search from here.

Voice Mail to Text relies on Nuance Communications’ Dragon technology, allowing you to respond to voice mail via text or email when calling back isn’t an option.
inMarket’s audience is composed of more than 20 million mobile-enabled shoppers who use their phone as a resource before, during, or after shopping in stores. Since its launch in October 2010, the world’s leading brands such as Coca-Cola, Levi’s, Nestle, Henkel, Kraft and Proctor & Gamble tested the service and have realized dramatic lift in consumer purchase intent of up to 400%. By comparison, conventional mobile banner campaigns demonstrate increased purchase intent by 11%… Sounds promising, can’t you tell?

Not sure you like some song? No problem, with access to a 30-second track sample, you can preview every song before committing your hard earned cash. Moreover, if you’re still not sure, you can easily beam this audio preview to your friends via BBM, email, SMS, Facebook and Twitter to ask them what they think about it, or (if you’ve already grabbed the song) – suggest them they get it, too.

Finally, it’s important to add that all your music is stored in the cloud (7Digital Music Locker), which you can later access from multiple apps and devices, making sure you get to keep all of your tunes even if (God forbid) your phone is lost or stolen…

According to the latest report by Juniper Research, a burgeoning market for healthcare peripherals and increasing smartphone processing power will result in the number of patients monitored by mobile networks to rise to 3 million by 2016. Using a smartphone as a hub, remote patient monitoring will also lower the cost of mHealth services by reducing the need for costly tailored devices.

The report goes on suggesting that the monitoring of cardiac outpatients is currently leading the field, though in time the management of diabetes and COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder) and other chronic diseases will play an important role in the market. In the meantime, report author Anthony Cox says that more trials are needed to further convince the medical establishment of remote patient monitoring benefits.

Further findings from the report include:

Mobile healthcare and medical app downloads will reach 44 million in 2012, rising to 142 million in 2016.

Clarification from the US FDA on which mHealth apps will require FDA approval is still required but is expected to add further impetus to the market.

Developing markets continue to benefit from SMS-based education programmes, while app-based services will appear in the medium term.

EHR (electronic health records) have yet to gain significant traction even in developed markets but in the long term will become an important component of mHealth offerings

As usual, you can get additional information from Juniper’s website.

If you don’t know what card.io is all about, you should know that it allows consumers to take a picture of their credit card to process payments, without any extra hardware. Since its iOS platform launch in June over 80 apps have integrated the card.io SDK, with more than 750 new developers signed-up.

Among the apps that already use card.io’s service are Venmo, a social payments platform, Merchant Billing, a billing, payments and processing company; and Qthru, a retail application that is geared toward improving the way people shop.

Finally in case you wonder, the company is founded by two former AdMob employees, Mike Mettler and Josh Bleecher Snyder; and backed by angel investors Michael Dearing of Harrison Metal, Jeff Clavier and Charles Hudson of SoftTech VC, Manu Kumar of K9 Ventures, Alok Bhanot (former VP, Risk Technology at PayPal), and Omar Hamoui (CEO and founder of AdMob).
