Contact UsWhispers of Target’s decision to stop selling the Amazon Kindle line of devices made their way around the internet last night. The rumors started when a source close to the matter told The Verge that the Minneapolis-based retailer would stop selling the line due to a “conflict of interest,” presumably due to the fact that Target will be opening Apple mini-stores within Target stores in coming months. This morning, Target responded to a request for comment from The Verge, confirming the news. Starting this spring (i.e., now), Target will stop selling … Read more
Sony’s Tablet S is getting its serving of Ice Cream Sandwich as we speak. At the moment we’re not sure which markets are included in the first queue, but since the new software is there, it’s likely that every Tablet S owner in the world will get the update during the next couple of days or weeks. Here’s what the new software brings: Enhanced lock screen with direct access to notifications and the ability to unlock directly to camera New panoramic camera mode Updated Gallery media viewer with direct SD … Read more
Just when we told you that the Acer Iconia Tab A100 got its Android 4.0 update, we’ve heard that the company’s 10-incher, Iconia Tab A500, got the same treatment, too. I haven’t caught the official note from Acer — so we don’t know what’s all included — but folks all around Interwebs are reporting getting the new software. In any case, we advise you to push the button the second you see that the update is available. Of course, you should have all your key information safely backed up, just … Read more
Samsung has started rolling out the Value Pack update to Galaxy Tab users in South Korea. We’re talking about the original 7-inch tablet which doesn’t rock a fast dual-core processor and which won’t get its serving of Ice Cream Sandwich. Rather, the Korean giant is pushing an Android 2.3-based software that comes with few features of Android 4.0 like Face Unlock, photo editor and the ability to capture an image while shooting video. Similarly to the Galaxy S, this update too is available through Kies 2.0 (rather than over the … Read more
Amazon announced a strong first quarter with $13.18 billion in revenues and $130 million in profits and the company is crowing about its Kindle lineup, particularly the Kindle Fire. The company still didn’t give exact sales figures but other reports suggest the Fire is on fire (sorry). In its press release, the company said, “Kindle Fire remains the #1 bestselling, most gifted, and most wished for product across the millions of items available on Amazon.com since launch. In the first quarter, 9 out of 10 of the top sellers on … Read more
Acer has started rolling out Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Iconia A100 tablet, with users around the Interwebs reporting their device is prompting them to “take action.” After the process is done, this 7 incher runs software build 1.014.00_WW_GEN1 with a kernel version of 2.6.39.4+. We’re not sure whether some Acer/Iconia-specific things are included with this new firmware or it’s the “basic” Android 4.0. In any case, it’s good to see the Taiwanese company taking good care of its existing customers and we’re hoping the Iconia A500 owners will … Read more
There’s a new (almost) must-have app for Android tablet owners out there. Called LilyPad HD, it is said to be the first floating instant messaging app for Android tablets. In other words, you will be able to keep an eye on your instant messaging activities, even while watching a YouTube video, surfing the web or using any other app — the chat window will remain visible at all times. Not all is that cool, however – there are three problems with LilyPad: At the moment, it only support Google Talk … Read more
I’m sure I’m not the only one who noticed there are just two 8.9-inch tablets out there – Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 and LG Optimus Tab. I really don’t understand why there are no other models to choose from. The way I see it, 10.1-inch tablets are too big and those with 7 or 7.7-inch screens are too small. I haven’t always thought like that – I used to love 7-inchers; however, with my next phone almost certainly having a 4.7-inch screen I could really use a bigger screen (on … Read more
We all need to check some information with Wikipedia from time to time. Instead of visiting the website whenever that’s needed, some of us (I know I do) fire-up the dedicated Wikipedia app to get the information faster without loading any side graphics. Up until this point, such an app wasn’t available for BlackBerry PlayBook users. I guess there were some unofficial ports but now the real deal (read: official) is in the App World, available as a free download. You can search for nearby articles, open them in browser, … Read more
To celebrate the upcoming Olympic Games (and get some media love), Acer launched a special version of its Iconia Tab A510 tablet that (as you can imagine) comes with five Olympic rings on the back of the device. Moreover, I would assume there is some preloaded content like wallpapers and screensavers included as well. Other than that, the Acer Iconia Tab A510 Olympic Game Edition is same as the original tablet, rocking NVidia’s Tegra 3 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 10.1-inch screen, 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, front-facing one (for video calls), 32GB of … Read more
Sprint’s ZTE Optik is getting a small update as we speak, with “small” doesn’t including Ice Cream Sandwich but few bug fixes and a couple of new features. Here’s what you get once the update process is completed: Google DRM solution Google Music Google+ Persistent notification after BT transfer Software version corrected in x-wap profile Sim City closes when attempting to purchase while connected to Wifi Sim City download issue fixed Response when connected to a computer via USB cable As far as I can tell, the most important bug … Read more
