Jetpack Joyride downloaded over 13 million times; Big update planned next month

Halfbrick’s other big game that doesn’t include slicing up dangerous fruit being hurdled in your direction, Jetpack Joyride, has been winning the minds and hearts of anyone that’s played it with its one-button interface and addictive gameplay. In fact, Halfbrick announced today at D.I.C.E. in Las Vegas they have made it past the 13 million download mark, although I would have easily been impressed if they announced they made it past 10 million downloads. What makes this news even more impressive is the fact Jetpack Joyride has achieved this goal Read more

See almost every Apple product in 30 seconds

If you’re a die-hard Android or Windows Phone fan (do those exist), then you may want to skip this post because this is going to be an ode to Apple. This really neat YouTube video shows nearly every Apple design that’s come out in a neat and tidy 30 seconds. You see many pieces of Apple tech which can bring up nostalgia or even some rage. I still hate the one-button mouse and the Newton was a joke – or if you want to be kind, it was too ahead Read more

Apple ‘protest’ fizzles – Should we care how our iDevices are made?

With all the recent investigations into the working conditions at companies Apple uses to produce its products, I figured a scheduled protest of this at the Apple Store in San Francisco would draw a bit of a crowd. I mean, this is San Francisco, we protest if the sun hasn’t come up in a while. That’s why I was surprised to get to the city’s flagship Apple store to find that the eight or so members of the media far outnumbered the protesters. The numbers may not mean anything because Read more

Video: New Amazon Kindle ad makes fun of the Apple iPad’s $500 price tag

Late last year Amazon launched a 7 inch tablet called the “Kindle Fire” that runs a highly customized version of Android Gingerbread. We don’t know exactly how many Amazon has sold, but some analysts speculate that around 6 million Fire tablets ended up in consumer’s hands during the fourth quarter of last year. For the sake of reference, Apple shipped 15.4 million iPads during the same quarter, though it should be noted that the Kindle Fire is only on sale in the United States, whereas the iPad is pretty much Read more

Rumor: Here’s a photo of the back of the iPad 3; it isn’t getting a quad core chip

Apple’s third generation tablet is set to be announced within a matter of weeks, at least we think it is because March is the month that Apple has used in the past to launch both the first and second generation iPad. For as long we can remember there have been rumors suggesting that it’s going to look exactly like the iPad 2, except that under the hood there’s going to be a quad core processor and that the screen resolution will be increased to an absolutely ridiculous resolution of 2048 Read more

Air Force is ordering 18,000 iPads for its cargo planes

The Apple iPad is making its way into the hands of some service men and women, as 18,000 iOS tablets will head over to the Air Force. These iPads are to replace the paper charts and technical manuals its flight crews carry. With this kind of purchase it’ll be the the largest single federal order for any tablet. The Air Force plans to get these slates at the lowest price possible through a firm, which is necessary with such a potentially large order. This is an interesting move because Apple’s iOS platform has yet Read more

Tweetbot lands on iPad, 2.0 version hits iPhone

One of my favorite ways to access Twitter is through Tweetbot because I feel like it’s an excellent and stylized way to use the micro-blogging service. That’s why I’m very happy to see that Tweetbot has landed on the iPad and that the 2.0 version is now available for the iPhone. Tweetbot is a Twitter client that uses clean, useful designs and subtle sounds to make browsing Twitter an amazing experience. It’s very simple to read through you timelines, open links from tweets and even see the conversation history of Read more

Hands-on Preview: Mass Effect Infiltrator for iOS

EA is getting set to release one of 2012′s most highly anticipated games, Mass Effect 3, on March 6th. They will already dominate the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 scene when the game is released, and they may also dominate your iOS device when Mass Effect Infiltrator is released on March 6th, too. During an EA press event yesterday, I got some hands-on time with their upcoming Mass Effect iOS offering. Mass Effect Infiltrator isn’t another Mass Effect Galaxy which ended up not being a very successful mobile title for BioWare. Read more

Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies receives in-app purchase of in-game points in latest update

One of iOS’ premier zombie murdering first-person shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies received an update over the weekend which allows players to spend even more money on the game by incorporating in-app purchases into the game. The new update allows players to “enhance their experience” by way of in-game point packs that can be purchased via in-app purchases in order for players to receive a bunch of in-game points. The in-game points can then be used in order to purchase weapons, ammo, build barricades, and much more. Of course, Read more

2012 should be the year of affordable but capable tablets

During CES this past January, tablets certainly weren’t in short supply. With the introduction of tablets like the Transformer Prime with the NVIDIA Tegra 3, the new trend will likely make quad-core all the rage. That said, as we’ve seen with the Kindle Fire, a tablet with decent specs and an awesome price can garner just as much attention as anything else these days. Mobile World Congress will undoubtedly show us a handful of tablets later this month but we wanted to ask the readers what would be more important Read more

Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective moves his investigation from the DS to iOS today

Capcom has made another Nintendo DS exclusive title available on iOS today as Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective has moved his quirky investigative prowess to the App Store today. If you recall the first Capcom Nintendo DS exclusive game to jump to the iOS platform was Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney back in 2010. Ironically, Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective was created by the same man: Shu Takumi. Instead of playing out courtroom drama from case to case, this mystery adventure game has players assuming the role of Sisel as he uses his Read more
