As you just said, the purpose is to allow this which enables the integration with social functionality, etc. The problem here is that it does not follow this model. Instead, it no longer uses the data from your phone to enhance said phone’s experiance. What it does is, without your permission, accesses your data, makes a connection to the software vendor, transfers your data off of your phone, places copies of your data in software vendors data center, who then could do whatever with it. Big difference from adding facebook pictures to your contact list… idiot.

So let me start that this comes from a person who was severally abused as a child… who then turned out to be a single mother of a son. And I can tell you, that boy…AND his friends, had the fear of god when it came to me. My son and his friends always new that if you fucked up, you would get your ass whooped..period. Now that ass whooping may come in the fashion of an actual spanking or you may have to listen to me bitch your ass out as I’m tossing all your shit in the dumpster. The point is, it drives me crazy that we, people, parents etc still haven’t discovered the difference between discipline and abuse. Should that mother have done something different, maybe, maybe not. I can tell you, as for me, there was no way I was going to let people make me afraid of parenting the way that I saw fit… Now that my son is 21, going to college, has full time work and still comes to see his mom daily… and now says, “you know, now I understand why you made me….” I guess those abusive days of ass whoopings for him weren’t so damaging.

Don’t forget that laissez-faire OS and marketplace seen in Android is available on the iPhone through it’s jailbroken / hack community — equally impressive in it’s depth of UI skins and other customization / apps… Bottom line, Apple currently offers, while slightly hidden, all of Android’s “openess” but is unfortunately tied to AT&T.

Go back to Verizon??? Not a chance. Had way too many billing, coverage and customer service issues with them. Coverage may be better now, but I’m not going back to the billing nightmare; especially not at 300+ dollars in termination fees.

Good riddance though to the masses of people that will jump ship to Verizon and bog down their network. I’ll finally have some more bandwidth to play with when the load balances out between the networks.

I agree with ed…moto has just not lived up to other manufacturers standards in the last 5 years (since th razr), as a rep I usually tell ppl not to buy moto phones cuz they’ll see more probs with them than maybe samsung or nokia or sony ericsson…although I like the droid, ppl just don’t trust it yet..

I just bought the Droid and love it. I’m not so sure I would ditch this phone for the iphone. The customizable interface of the Droid is amazing. You can change anything about the phone and android is constantly getting better.
