It operates in three segments: Carrier, Enterprise, and Services. The Carrier segment comprises the Wireline, Wireless, and Convergence business groups. The Wireline group offers core networks access networks facilitating the delivery of voice, data, and video services. The Wireless group serves the needs of wireless carriers and provides a range of mobile communications, including GSM/GPRS/EDGE, W-CDMA, and CDMA, as well as nascent technologies, such as WiMAX. The Convergence Business group offers a product portfolio, which supports voice, multimedia, entertainment, and converged services. The Enterprise segment develops secure and end-to-end business critical communications products, including IP and hybrid-IP telephone systems, call center software and applications, and IP networking products. The Services segment provides network integration and other professional services, network operations services, and maintenance services. Its network integration, planning, design, optimization, and management services are critical to simplifying network convergence and the transformation of its carrier and enterprise customersâ€™ networks to IP infrastructure and empowering service providers. This segmentâ€™s maintenance services enables its customers in improving the performance of their multi-vendor networks and maintain network reliability and availability; remote technical support services that provide remote support capabilities to diagnose, resolve, and restore the network; and on-site technical support services, which offer technical specialists to deliver on-site maintenance services. The company was founded in 1898. It was formerly known as Alcatel and changed its name to Alcatel-Lucent in 2006. The company is headquartered in Paris, France.
