I have over half of these on my E61, that’s a scary coincidence. The only reason I’m posting this is because everyone should know about free ways to expand the functionality of their device. One thing not on her list that I think you should check out: Opera Mini

Congratulations to Antony Pranata for becoming a Forum Nokia Champion

Logo_fn_champion3
If you haven’t checked out his screenshot application then what are you waiting for?

That application along with all the S60 tips (great blog; subscribe to it) this man produces … it’s obvious to see why he was given this title for the second time in a row, one more time Antony: Congrats!

The reward was a very big surprise to me. I couldn’t believe that I was selected. Honestly, I felt that I hadn’t contributed too much to the developer’s community.

On the other side, being selected as Forum Nokia (NYSE: NOK) Champions has some implications to us. We have to share our knowledge to other Forum Nokia members. Our insight, vision and active involvement should inspire others.

The membership of Forum Nokia Champion is valid for one year only. My membership is supposed to be expired today. Fortunately … I have been re-selected as one of the new Forum Nokia Champions 2007.

Carbide.c++ shortcuts

Carbide.c++After using Carbide.c++ for quite a while, Antony Pranata compiled a list of some shortcut tips. According to Antony, all the shortcuts he mentions in his article should work with both Carbide.c++ version 1.0 and 1.1 as well as Eclipse IDE.

At the end of the article, Antony points out that you can configure your own shortcuts in Carbide.c++, a feature that current Visual Studio developers could find quite useful. Certainly one article that should make your mobile development efforts more productive. :)

Antony Pranata tells us how to start Symbian OS C++ development

Download SDK

The first thing to do is download the Symbian OS C++ SDK. Which SDK to download? There are several SDKs depending on the UI platforms of the phones.

Download IDE

Another question that usually comes up from developers is "Which IDE to use?" Once again, there are several IDEs supporting Symbian OS C++.

Buy Books

There have been many concerns about the quality of SDK documentation, which is not good enough. That’s why I would recommend buying one of Symbian OS C++ books

Technical Articles, Sample Codes and Forum Discussion

Sometimes books are not enough, so you may want to read some technical articles about Symbian OS C++ as well. There are several good sources

All you developers get cracking!

How to Start Symbian OS C++ Development?

After getting many questions such as “How do I start Symbian OS C++ development?” or “Which SDK should I use?”, Antony Pranata, Forum Nokia (NYSE: NOK) Champion and creator of the Screenshot application, decided to create a post in his blog titled “How to Start Symbian OS C++ Development?”.

Because of the complexity of the issue and multiple UIs, Antony’s latest post is something every developer should bookmark. He explains which SDKs are available, which IDEs should be used. Furthermore he suggests good books to read and finally goes through the useful sites where developers could find articles, sample codes and forum discussions. Nicely summed-up Antony! :)

Screenshot 2.45 released

Screenshot 2.45Antony Pranata released the new Screenshot 2.45. Unlike the previous version, the new Screenshot works only on Symbian S60 3rd Edition-based devices.

The Screenshot 2.45 brings more languages (Brazilian Portuguese, Portuguese and Bulgarian), the new shortcut (+<#>), some bug fixes (i.e. shortcut in Nokia (NYSE: NOK) E61/E62) and a background image at the startup. The last mentioned is a minor usability tweak that shows users Screenshot’s hotkeys.

As always, Screenshot is a free application and is available for download from here.

Media synchronizing on S60 phones

SynchronizingIf you were wondering how to synchronize your media files – movies, music and podcasts – from your computer to your Nokia (NYSE: NOK) S60 phone here’s the answer. Of course, Antony Pranata’s S60tips.com got the answer. It’s not that hard, so click on the links and read it through.

One big thanks to Antony for keep providing us with useful information on his blog. :)

Why Symbian OS Development is Very Difficult

First of all let me underline that this post SHOULD NOT disencourage you to develop for Symbian OS. Quite contrary, the idea is to get to know some “obstacles” BEFORE you start developing for Symbian OS. Yes, there are some obstacles and many “strange” programming paradigms in the development for Symbian OS. However, it is the market leading platform, and so far the single best mobile OS in the world (telephony stack in Windows Mobile sucks).

Now, this is not that much of a post, as it is the link. Again, Antony Pranata, a Forum Nokia (NYSE: NOK) Champion, has a post on the subject. I can not emphasize enough how much this is a must read for any Symbian OS developer wanna-be. Here’s the link.

Screenshot 2.30 released

@LINK0@ has just updated its @LINK1@ for Symbian OS. Just to remind you, Screenshot is a free program that lets you take screenshots on your Symbian OS mobile phones (UIQ or S60). You can capture screenshot and save it to a file in JPEG, BMP, MBM or PNG (S60 only) format.

New in this version:

  • Support for S60 3rd edition devices
  • Added Norwegian, Hungarian, Dutch and Ukrainian – 26 languages are supported
  • Fixed bug in Nokia (NYSE: NOK) E61. Now the screenshot is displayed correctly in landscape mode.

Unfortunately, the UIQ 3 version still doesn’t exist – but I’m sure that Antony will prepare that as well in the near future. In the meantime visit Antony’s site for more information and download instructions.

Help testing Screenshot for Symbian OS (UIQ) v2.30

Symbian developer and a Forum Nokia (NYSE: NOK) Champion, Antony Pranata, is seeking help to test Screenshot for Symbian OS (UIQ) version 2.30. If you have the UIQ 2.x device such as Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) P900, I encourage you to test Antony’s freeware application. He’s testing on emulator and could really use your help. All you need is some spare time and a will to contribute.
