The Nokia N93 and N93i have a stereo mic

Just a thought for all of you (especially podcasters) on the fence about purchasing either the Nokia N93 or N93i.

How good is the stereo mic on the N93? James records two audio samples. I recommend you have headphones on when listening to truly hear and appreciate the dynamic space.

So lets recap:

  • N93i has a smaller battery then the N93, therefore a shorter battery life
  • N93i runs the same OS as N93
  • N93i has mono microphone
  • N93i has a screen with more colors but poorer contrast then the N93

It’s a tough one. The N93i has:

  • Better joystick
  • Faster focus speeds
  • Smaller shape, lighter weight
  • A more useful front screen

I can’t proclaim a winner to be honest.

Thanks to WOM World for the link to James’ audio clips.

UPDATE: Colli (in the comments) linked me to All About Symbian’s review of the N93i, which less than 24 hours ago proclaimed that the N93i only did mono recording. Don’t believe me? I have the quote right here:

The stereo microphones have been dropped on the N93i and it’s mono only, sadly. Being able to record in immersive stereo was one of the highlights of using the N93 as a camcorder and I’m sad to see only the single microphone here.

Now All About Symbian states:

And, contrary to reports from other Internet sites, the audio track from N93i video is still full stereo – the mikes are hidden, but they are there, and I have the MP4 files to prove it. So, if the N93 got 10/10 for video, the N93i gets…. errrr….. the same maximum score!

Wait what?! Contrary to reports from other internet sites? You’re the one who helped propagate that false information! If you make a mistake just fix it and admit you were wrong. It happens mate, no one will look down on you for it. I still love All About Symbian <3

Everything has been corrected, huge thanks to Colli: I hate spreading false information. It makes you look foolish.
