Latest report by NPD Group reveals 29 million users in the U.S. play games on their mobile phones, with 7 million actively downloading the games onto their phones. The surprise here is that the most active demographic for mobile gaming include adults aged from 25 to 34 (29%), followed by those aged between 18 and 24 (27%), and those aged from 13 to 17 (15%).
Commenting on the results, NPD industry analyst Anita Frazier said: “While teens definitely have a higher incidence than adults for mobile gaming, they still play second fiddle to their older counterparts in overall game play and downloading. And while it’s true that adults currently control the lion’s share of mobile game downloads and play, as more teens enter the mobile subscriber base we’ll see these numbers start to reach parity.”
The report also revealed that there are still roadblocks like consumer education and underwhelming quality that continue to hamper the industry’s chance to provide the killer app for mobile phones.
