Mozilla confirms long term Firefox Mobile projectMozilla has confirmed, through CEO Mitchell Baker, that developers are working on a mobile version of the uber-popular Firefox browser. The “Firefox Mobile” browser aims to bring the full, desktop experience that users of Firefox already enjoy, to the mobile arena. This is a long-term project and Mozilla is working ot ensure that the customizability of Firefox, as well as the full web-browsing experience, will carry over to the mobile platform.

For the moment, the Minimo project is as close as we can get to a mobile Mozilla browser. But, Minimo is not officially sanctioned by Mozilla and is horribly lacking when compared to Opera Mobile. We’re ecstatic that Mozilla is working on an official Firefox browser for mobile phones – it was a sad day when plug was pulled on Minimo.
