Big four mobile game publishers – namely EA Mobile, Glu Mobile, Gameloft and I-play – have come together to usher a new era of cooperation in the mobile games sector. Or that’s at least the mobile games sector in Britain.
The idea behind the ELSPA “mobile project” is to do the similar thing games publishers already do in the real world, where console games debut across all retailers at the same time. In that sense, Glu’s Tranformers, Gameloft’s Guitar Legend, EA’s FIFA 08 and a fourth yet to be announced title will each be published simultaneously on UK carrier networks in June, July, August and September.
To date games publishers have generally had deals with the carriers on an exclusive or ad hoc basis, often resulting in patchwork release schedules. This kind of cooperation is set to fix this, and ELSPA said that it expects other initiatives to emerge in the future. (via: mcv)
