It can be a trying experience, looking for the latest and greatest mobile phone that both suits your needs and works with your wallet. There are just soo many sources of information serving up a variety of data on any particular mobile phone that it can get overwhelming, and a bit disorganized.
TestFreaks is here to make your search a bit easier – as an aggregator of consumer electronics reviews, TestFreaks brings together all the web’s reviews in an organized and thorough layout.
What is it?
The TestFreaks platform is still in its Alpha stage, so there are bound to be some changes. But, as it stands today, the TestFreaks service gives the consumer easy access to reviews (pictures, and even videos are things to look for in the future) on a particular consumer electronic device – our readers would more specifically benefit from the mobile phone section. They gather user and professional reviews (from blogs, wikis, forums, etc.) in a simple to read list, which takes the stress out of hunting down various reviews – but keep in mind, it doesn’t do the work for you, reading all those reviews takes patience.
Does it work?
While it’s nice to be able to go through a multitude of user and blog reviews, some people might be turned away at the shear volume by data that TestFreaks serves up. There is no overview or “conclusion” provided by the service, they leave it up to the user to wade through all the different reviews and come with their own opinion – that’s fine for the true gadget enthusiast, but we think it would turn off the Joe-gadget-shopper looking for a good mobile phone. The organized layout is a definite plus, and we imagine that the site’s structure will improve with time. It works, but only if you’re willing to put in the time.
Conclusion
We like the idea of a review aggregator, but it takes a committed individual to actually make it through all the reviews. Pictures and videos would definitely make the site more user-friendly – as would a simplified conclusion and review section. A summary of blog and professional reactions would be a nice feature.
Then again, we’re the type of gadget-freaks that this service was geared toward. If you’re looking for a quick review service, TestFreaks may not fit the bill. If you’re looking for varied opinions from around the world, then keep an eye out for the Beta and final version to launch. We’re thinking the beta version will be a huge improvement, so head on over to the TestFreaks.com homepage and sign up to be a beta tester.
