We’ve reported on Omnifone and MusicStation (here and here) before, but apparently it is making more money for operators than traditional full-track download services:
A spokesman for the company said that, in its first nine weeks since the launch, MusicStation generated more annual revenue for one of its network partners than the operator’s own established pay-per-track service.
In the UK, MusicStation is only available on Vodafone – the service costs £1.99/week, and this gives users unlimited access to over 1m tracks from several labels, inlcuding all the majors.
Omnifone has also been branching out in to handset preloads, recently signing a deal with LG. Much like some other handset vendors strategies, users will get the service for free, and only pay for the download charges.
