Have you been holding off on that iPhone 2.0.2 OS update for your iPhone or iPhone 3G in fear of losing your jailbreak applications? Good news, the iPhone Dev Team has released the latest update to their Pwnage Tool jailbreak solution. With Pwnage Tool 2.0.3, the Dev Team makes it possible to free your iPhone 3G from the iron-fisted rule of Cupertino and make good with all those sweet, sweet third-party applications.
More importantly, the iPhone 2.0.2 OS update for the iPhone 3G bundles a newer baseband firmware (the code that controls your iPhone 3G’s cellular radio) that might kill any future unlocking hopes for the 3G-enabled handset – and the Pwnage Tool 2.0.3 allows you to create a new iPhone 2.0.2 OS restore file that replaces the new baseband firmware with an older version. The Dev Team has made some breakthroughs in their quest to unlock the older baseband firmware, so it makes sense to keep using the older baseband.
PwnageTool 2.0.3 brings with it an updated Installer beta 6 and .de localization for German iPhone fans.
If you already have PwnageTool 2.0.1 or PwnageTool 2.0.2 installed on your Mac, all you have to do is fire up the application and wait for it to ask you if you want to update to a newer version. Failing that, you may manually check for updates through Pwnage Tool’s integrated Sparkle update utility.
