EA to release Android games when it can charge for them

Everyone’s going Android these days. Of the big gaming publishers we’ve already seen Gameloft announcing support for the platform and Namco releasing Pac-Man for the T-Mobile G1 owners. What about EA, you ask?

The big daddy of gaming is also looking forward to the new opportunities offered by Google’s mobile platform, but has decided to wait for the moment. The official wording goes like this: “EA will support the Android platform… but has elected to wait for the launch of a content billing solution to bring their premier IP to market.”

At the moment, only free apps are available through Android Market, but that may change pretty soon. After all, Google would certainly like to have premier apps populating its mobile app store.

In the meantime, we’re wondering why EA haven’t opted to offer its titles directly through its website, while waiting for non-free content support in the Android Market…
