Do you ever get those calls from a family member or friend that might not be so ‘tech savvy’ and wish you could see exactly what they were seeing on their screen? What if things were even worse, and the person you were trying to help did not have an internet connection? This is where things get a bit hairy. Enter Dan O’Sullivan and his ‘Android Camera Hat for Complicated Televisions’.
You see, Dan’s mom often has trouble working the universal remote on her television. Dan grew tired of trying to solve problems without being able to see what was going on. So, he created the camera hat you see above, with T-Mobile G1 mounted front and center.
…I kind of wanted learn how to program for Android so I decided to do it myself on one of those. I did it as a one day project for ITP’s 4in4.
1-Day project? Good work Dan!
Say what you want about the setup, but you have to hand it to Dan for using his expertise to solve a problem that has been plaguing him. Now he can troubleshoot for his mom… He’s happy, mom is happy… and mom gets to wear an awesome hat while she’s at it 😛
Read more about this over at Dan O’Sullivan’s blog. He’s also graciously posted his source code up there for any Android developers wanting to poke through. Good stuff.
