One of the companies showing off at Showstoppers was Touchatag, which you might know as tikitag; they had been working on a 2D barcode scanner and RFID detector which allowed for contactless close-range communication between tagged objects and your phone. In addition to their rebranding, Touchatag is now offering an extended API for developers to plug into and a few new services for enterprises who want to roll out their own contactless services.
- electronic value transactions, such as loyalty programs or facilitation of financial transactions
- event experiences, whereby touchatag is used to streamline interest recording and link
- attendees to key information of interest online
- interactive advertising
- smart toys and media
- mobile workforce solutions for one touch service registration and information access while on the move
Their demo was pretty neat – just a quick tap on one of their sticker-style tags, or alternatively on a reprogrammable tablet connected by USB, users could launch all sorts of actions: transfer information, display pictures, even nab data online. In the picture sample here, a doctor could immediately gather a patient’s latest data by simply tapping his or her phone to a file. Cool application all around, and the APIs should entice developers to get in on the action.
