Vodafone NZ will finish 3G upgrade early

vodafone-logo21Vodafone NZ has said it plans to finish it’s 3G rollout to a level of 95% coverage by the end of May – a full year ahead of schedule! Well someone has sure got good project managers!! 🙂

On the infrastructure duties this time are Nokia Siemens Networks – with their quality, and Vodafone’s 900Mhz spectrum, it should bode well for coverage in the more rural areas (the low(er) frequency means a more persisting signal, due to longer wavelength…)

I’m sure it won’t be long before see news about a second-tier network upgrade occurring, to take the network to 3.5G, and then to HSPA+…. New Zealanders had better get ready for some serious wireless data speeds! Of course like with all things, the data rates you get depend on the cell contention ratio, but you gotta start somewhere – so hats off to Vodafone NZ for getting on with things, and doing it fast!
