Long were the days when Motorola could support multiple platforms. At one point, the American company worked on Windows Mobile, Linux and Symbian (UIQ) devices. That’s changing obviously, and now we have Moto scaling back from the LiMo Foundation, which it helped cofounded. The reason seems obvious – it’s Android they want to focus on, and we applaud them for their decision. The official statement goes like this: “At this time [Motorola] feels that the Android platform gives it a richer, more consistent foundation with strong support for the ecosystem and developer community.”
Anyway, the company’s VP of software applications and ecosystems, Christy Wyatt, recently indicated that she has vacated her board seat on the LiMo Foundation board of directors. However, Moto remains an associate member, the move which made it delisted from LiMo’s founding member list. Also it seems as a smart move, just in case something incredibly smart happens with LiMo, though we doubt that will be the case. On the other hand, they may want to contribute their MOTOBLUR user interface to other mobile Linux communities. That’s not a bad idea, now that I’m thinking…
