The Google Phone has gone mainstream. At least as mainstream as we could expect for a geeky smartphone that runs an even geekier mobile operating system made by one of the geekiest companies on Earth. We know this because the wise-crackers at Saturday Night Live jumped on board the Google Phone train last night with a passing mention of the Android-powered smartphone. We have to imagine that the folks at Google are beaming after seeing their name mentioned in an SNL skit – it’s not everyday that you see a non-iPhone piece of tech mentioned on a TV show like SNL. The mood at Apple, though, is probably a fair bit more subdued after seeing SNL’s Seth Meyers disses the iPhone’s voice call skills.
