ROK Entertainment Group and Claro (a Mobile Operator in Uruguay), have announced the launch of streamed mobile TV subscription service, PPV TV.
It’s all powered by ROK’s over-the-air video-streaming technologies, and will offer an initial package of 8 international channels including, ESPN, Disney Channel, ESPN-X, MTV, A&E, Discovery Movil, National Geographic, The History Channel, Wappo TV (from Warner Music Group).
So the march of ROK continues apace, and fortunately (in my opinion) they are basing that progress on Streaming, rather than trying to get any kind of broadcast mobile TV solution working. With the continuing upgrade of 3G networks to 3.5G and 3.75G, we are now getting to unicast streaming bandwidths that can deliver decent quality video.
