Siano Mobile Silicon has announced that some of the world’s largest Personal Navigation Device (PND) makers (Garmin, Mio, Navigon and others) – have integrated its MDTV receiver chips into their latest consumer GPS products.
“Personal Navigation is a perfect fit for mobile TV roll-out.” said Alon Ironi, CEO of Siano. “Characterized by large screens, powerful graphics/video performance and mobility – digital television on-the-go is the ultimate complementary feature for navigation devices. We are excited to be working with the top global PND brands – and look forward to accelerating the adoption of mobile TV into GPS consumer markets worldwide.”
Hmmm, interesting – now Sat Nav devices might just succeed where TV on mobile devices have failed – because if you’re using a Sat Nav, you’re almost certainly out and about – and your typical Sat Nav device does have a decent size screen.
However, to-date most Sat Nav devices have not exactly been blessed in the multimedia department – so it will be good to see exactly what kind of devices come of the grinder from the various manufacturers… I wonder if they’ll let you watch TV whilst moving!
