Nokia India decided to suspend 60 people working at their factory in Chennai due to “acts of serious misconduct” and that triggered nearly 1,200 employees to stage a protest. Those Nokia N97 Minis and N900s don’t make themselves you know, production has been slowed and the company hopes that things will be “resolved soon”. I bet. On January 25 Nokia will meet with the employee’s union and government labor commissioner in Tamil Nadu to see if they can resolve everyone’s beef. How will device shipment targets be impacted? Which devices are made at the Chennai factory? Those are questions I’d like answers to, but I severely doubt Nokia will provide any figures.
This isn’t the first time this has happened either. During August of last year employees held a 10 hour strike demanding higher wages. Nokia will be posting their Q4 2009 results next week so well see if their cost cutting measures actually fixed anything and how many units they’ve shipped.
