You might remember the Motorola Devour from Motorola’s Superbowl commercial, where Megan Fox is befriending the sharp-angled, metallic Android phone in the bathtub. The Devour is one of Motorola’s latest Android phones and it packs a decent punch underneath its stylishly high-tech exterior. Available on Verizon later this year, the Motorola Devour won’t break the mold when it comes to high-end specs, but it will definitely impress anyone looking for a mid-range Android phone with the design chops to compete with the big boys (cough, HTC Legend, cough).
The Motorola Devour features a 3.1-inch capacitive touchscreen display, 3-megapixel camera, 3G data, WiFi, GPS, 3.5mm headphone jack, slide-out QWERTY keyboard and an optical trackpad. The keyboard slides out with a satisfying “snick” and the keys are spaced just right for comfortable typing. The keys are slightly raised and offer great tactile feedback – good travel, smooth click-action.
As for software, Devour will run on the Android 1.6 OS, customized by Motorola with their MotoBLUR user interface. The MotoBLUR homescreen uses various widgets to put real-time social network and news feed information at your fingertips, always ready to tell you what you need to know. Unfortunately, being a Verizon phone that doesn’t work until activated, the Devour in this video doesn’t demonstrate the MotoBLUR UI.
Overall, the most striking thing about the Motorola Devour is its exterior styling and in-hand feel. It just feels solid and a little menacing in the hand. And, with angles that might actually be capable of cutting cheese, the Devour definitely appeals to our inner Type-A geek.
Expect the Devour to drop on Verizon this March.
