Aiko Solutions, a UK based security software developer (yay!), has released the new version of SecuWipe, which we are told is the world’s first and most feature-rich data wiping solution for Windows phones and Windows CE terminals. It will securely delete all information from a compromised device – either when it discovers an untrusted SIM or a specific SMS with a pass-phrase.
Secuwipe erases sensitive information using Department of Defense wiping methods, Bruce Schneier’s and Peter Gutmann’s algorithms. It also sanitises all previously deleted data, contacts, email and SMS messages, confidential files and folders from the mobile device and its media cards. Aiko say it is both the solution for everyday use for protecting mobile user’s privacy and identity and the only way to securely dispose of old Windows devices within an organization.
Version 1.1 features a Wipe Scheduler that adds even more features to protect the user’s sensitive data:
- SMS based wiping – SecuWipe will wipe selected data files if a specific SMS with password is received
- Wiping on Untrusted SIM will wipe selected data if an unknown SIM is inserted into the device SIM slot
- No SIM or Phone off will wipe the device if it has been stolen and the intruder has removed the SIM card or disabled the phone option
- Time based wiping – SecuWipe will wipe the desired data on hourly, daily, monthly or yearly basis.
SecuWipe supports the whole range of Windows touch-screen and non-touch screen phones. Windows Mobile Professional/Classic/Standard (6.0/6.1/6.5), Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC/Smartphone, Pocket PC 2000/2002/2003SE/Smartphone 2002. Windows CE 3.0/4.0/4.1/4.2/5.0/5.2/6x terminals are supported as well. Versions for ARM, MIPS, SH3, SH4, X86 processor types are available.
If all that sounds good to you, then you might want to grab as a trial version at no cost, and it can be downloaded here. A single-user license can be securely purchased online for USD $39.95.
