Still waiting for Bluetooth 3.0 to hit your phone? Stop living in the past man. Bluetooth SIG Executive Director Mike Foley said the 4.0 version will be hitting devices by the end of the year.
In an interview with Good Gear Guide, Foley said the latest version will focus on power management and it will enable manufacturers to include it in small devices that use coin-cell batteries (like watches or pedometers). Previously, Bluetooth could only be implemented in larger batteries. There doesn’t seem to be many more details about what’s new, but it will retain the ability to use 802.11 WiFi to transfer data. More functionality is always good but, like Bluetooth 3.0, don’t look for this version to hit the mainstream for a while.
