There are apps on the iPhone that allow you to make all kinds of music. There are DJ music-mixing apps, beat-making apps, and even apps that turn your iPhone into an instrument. But, those apps have been limited to a fairly small screen. Well, with the iPad launching in less than 24 hours, we’re starting to see the next-generation of music apps hitting the AppStore. Smule, known for their Ocarina iPhone app/musical instrument and the I Am T-Pain app, is at it again with a new iPad app called Magic Piano. The app turns your iPad into a “magical piano” (imagine that) of sorts, making it easy to create your own tunes from the comfort of your couch.
The Magic Piano app presents you with what should be a familiar piano keyboard layout on your iPad. You can customize the number of keys displayed to dumb-down or ratchet-up the complexity of the songs you’d like to play. Whether it’s “Flight of the Bumblebee” and “Fur Elise”, or just a casual “Heart and Soul” jingle, the Magic Piano will accomodate.
And, because not everyone is as musically inclined as world-renowned pianist Lang Lang – who served as the inspiration for this app – Magic Piano for iPad can show you how to play pre-loaded songs by showing you which keys to play with beams of light. When that gets old, you can hop online to see what other people are playing and even play a duet with a stranger!
Smule’s Magic Piano iPad app is available for $2.99 on a limited basis.
