Loopt told us that it has just pushed out some updates for its iPhone and BlackBerry apps and I thought there were a few noteworthy new additions.
The biggest change is that the location-based social network now lets you interact with events and friends all from within the map screen (supposedly a first for LBS apps). The previous versions weren’t too difficult to navigate but it is better to have an integrated, holistic experience.
The BlackBerry version will also have elements of the LooptPulse iPad app, including the ability to check in to locations and receive information on local events, venues and friends. Of course, the BlackBerry version has the added benefit of being able to run in the background, which makes it a bit more useful than the iPhone counterpart.
Companies like Loopt are probably anxiously awaiting tomorrow’s iPhone 4.0 announcement because Apple is expected to allow some form of third-party multitasking. We’ll have up-to-the-minute coverage of the latest firmware and what it means for LBS companies and consumers.
