It looks like gaming on the iPad was a lot bigger than I had originally anticipated. According to App Store analytic company Distimo, out of 2,385 iPad-only apps, 833 of them are games. If you do the math, that’s 35% of all the iPad-only apps currently available in the App Store. The next popular categories are ‘Entertainment’ with 260 apps, and ‘Education’ with 205 apps. As more game developers get their hands on the iPad, that 35% could possibly rise if enough iPhone games receive iPad updates.
35% of all iPad-only apps is all well and good, but my question is how many of those iPad-only games are worth the price of admission? I’ve picked my top 11 iPad games a couple of days ago, but that’s just 11 out of 833. The report also doesn’t say how many of those games were paid vs. free, although it does state 83% of all iPad apps are paid.
Not bad, considering Nintendo doesn’t even see the iPad & iPhone as viable gaming platforms, eh?
