GameChanger – Absentee parents, your iPhone app has arrived!

Whether your one of those super-supportive parents that just can’t stand to miss one minute of your child’s youth, or you’re a high-powered Wall Street type that spends more time in front of a computer and cellphone than with your kid, there’s a new iPhone app that might help you stay in touch with your kids. Or, at least it’ll help you stay in touch with your kids’ little league baseball games. The app is called GameChanger, and it gives you live updates on your kid’s baseball game. The app comes from Fungo Media, and has seen thousands of little league teams signing up for GameChanger service.

The GameChanger service is a two-parter. First, a designated scorekeeper has to load the app on their iPhone and physically attend a game. They enter game updates into the app. All that real-time data is sent to GameChanger’s website, where parents can log in and view the live status updates from their kid’s baseball game. As it stands, the app is “a data collection device,” says Fungo Media founder Ted Sullivan.

In the future though, Fungo says that they plan to build in the live play-by-play game coverage feature directly into the app. That will allow users to use the app to both report updates on a particular game as well as keep tabs on that game from an iPhone. The app is mostly free, but parents that want more detailed information on games and player stats will have to pay $8 to $12 per month.

The service sounds like a sure-fire way to get around that awkward moment when you have to tell your kid that you’ll have to miss their baseball game. Again. Because you have an important client to take to dinner. Again.

The app is free, so you actually don’t have to work on Wall Street to participate in your kid’s life.
