According to my buddy Ron at picoprojector-info.com, Microvision have announced that they have received an $8.5 million purchase order for their PicoP laser pico-projector modules for a consumer electronics customer. The plan is to use the engine in a high-end mobile media player, which will be released towards the end of 2010!
Of course, the immediate question is who could that be? And also, what the nature of the device in question is! I highly suspect it won’t be a pure Mobile Telephonydevice, but something a bit bigger.
At any rate, it’s good to see the adoption of the pico-projector – it really does solve the problem of what do to for a large-scale display in a smallish environment. Microvision’s specific solution for example is based on Laser-Beam-Steering and provides a focus-free image with WVGA (848×480) resolution – nice!
