The iPad is a great device for casually surfing the web and potentially getting some work done while hanging out at a cafe or on the couch. But, the thing about the iPad is that it currently is only available in WiFi-only trim. That means you’ll either have to limit yourself to your living room, or frequent caffeine-selling establishments with WiFi service. That is, unless you have a Sprint MiFi or Sprint Overdrive 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot. In that case, you can go nearly anywhere in the US and always have a wireless internet connection handy. If you’re in a Sprint 4G market, you’ll even get 4G data speeds up to 10x faster than 3G. So, it makes
sense that Sprint is pushing their Overdrive onto iPad customers. To that end, the carrier has just announced they’ll be giving away their new iPad case for free at participating Best Buy stores.
The Sprint iPad case features a little pocket that you can use to hold your Sprint Overdrive. That way, you never lose track of the hockey puck-sized wireless modem, and you’ll always be sure to have an internet connection for your WiFi-only iPad. The company is giving away 10,000 of these cases at select Best Buy stores (likely those in 4G markets) while supplies last. The promotion started on April 17, so you’d do well to hit up your local Best Buy to grab a case before they run out!
For reference, Sprint has 4G up and running in 28 US cities, including as Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Las Vegas, Philadelphia, Portland, Ore., San Antonio and Seattle. In 2010, Sprint plans to have more markets coming online with 4G, including Boston, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Denver, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, New York, Pittsburgh, Salt Lake City, San Francisco and St. Louis.
