Sygic AURA (a nex-gen Sat Nav app) has got released in to the wild – mapping Singapore on Malayisa on its first regional outing.
In case you are wondering what’s nex-gen about it – well, it’s apparently a “revolutionary combination of full-featured turn-by-turn car and pedestrian navigation with social networking, packed with latest maps and tons of useful tourist information, all this in 3D with attractive landmark models of the most popular places”
I’m not too sure it’s revolutionary, but some of the features are certainly welcome, if they are executed well in the application. Case in point: 3D Maps – I’m certainly at the point now where a cleverly-realised 3D Map would add something to the environment for me, but the problem to-date has been mixing the requirement for that much extra detail, with the massive storage impact.
Another feature is the extra metadata that supposedly comes with the app, allowing you to check out (for instance) local points of interest with lots of detail to it.
One feature I’m not convinced by is the social side of the App – but then again, I think some apps have a core requirement for social connectivity, and others don’t – and I’d have to be convinced that being able to find my budding, when I’m using Sat Nav, is actually important – I’d of thought getting where I was going would be priority number one!
At any rate, we’ll all be able to give things a go when the regional app for where each of us lives goes live – I’m waiting for the UK edition of Sygic AURA 🙂
