This story caught my eye, as it should many Canadians. Turns out that Shoppers Drug Mart and Rogers have come to some sort of agreement, allowing Rogers/Fido to sell their wares via the national chain of drug stores. Starting on July 1st, Rogers and Shoppers will kick-off a pilot project to sell smartphones and rocket sticks at 30 yet-to-be-announced locations.
I’m hoping one of the locations is the Shoppers Drug Mart just down the road from me. Through the years I’ve been used to picking up toothpaste, deodorant and other ‘essentials’, but now, I can pick up a smartphone with my pit-stick. How awesome is that!? 😛
Should be interesting to see how the project turns out, and what the response is. When shopping for a smartphone, I want to talk to someone courteous and knowledgeable, you know, to run me through the device, show me the features, etc… Sadly, it’s been my experience at ANY Rogers location that I know more than the sales rep. So, yeah, you know what, this Shoppers deal could work out quite nicely 😛 Seriously though, I could see the cheaper pay-as-you-go type devices doing well. You can walk into any 7-11 around here and pick up a phone. Might as well have the same option at your local drugstore.
I digress. Let’s see how this little experiment works out. Hoping for the best for Shoppers and Rogers!
