So far we usually covered SRS’ and Dolby’s mobile efforts. The two companies have successfully partnered with leading mobile phone makers which are now selling multimedia devices with enhanced audio quality. Today we have a story involving DTS that signed a deal with Pantech which will embed DTS’ digital surround audio decoding technology into its smartphones. The first line of these DTS-enabled products are set for launch in Korea in April 2010.
At launch, Pantech smartphones will include a DTS Legacy decoder (digital surround) with 2-channel analog and 2-channel PCM output through a mini HDMI port. This will allow users the ability to stream content from their phones to a number of external sources to “experience lush DTS sound.”
Signing such a deal with Pantech is a huge win for DTS, which is usually known for its involvement in household HD entertainment products. Hopefully, we’ll see more news from them as market of the digital audio technologies on mobile phones keeps growing.
