Opera wants to make it easier for developers to create mobile widgets and it is now offering an emulator that enables creators to test and debug their programs on a Windows, Mac or Linux computer instead of a phone.
The Opera Widgets Mobile Emulator should lower the barrier of entry because you won’t have to track down specific phones to test out your widget for something like multiple screen sizes.
“With more people accessing the web from their phones, optimizing and tweaking web content for display on phones is increasingly important,” said Andreas Bovens, group leader of Opera’s developer relations, in a prepared statement.
Despite its minuscule share of the desktop browsing market, Opera is a force in the mobile space with its Mobile and Mini products. It’s also riding a hot streak lately because its browser was recently approved for the iPhone and it is moving units like crazy.
