There’s no doubt that one of the hottest Android phones, nay mobile phones, of the 2010 calendar year will be the highly-anticipated HTC EVO 4G from Sprint. Sure, there’s the iPhone 4 coming down Apple’s pipeline, but the Evo will definitely give Apple’s next-gen iPhone a serious run for its money – and will likely kill the new iPhone from a hardware spec standpoint. The good news is that it looks like we won’t have to wait too long for Sprint to loose their first true “superphone” on the Android-loving masses in the US. A fresh rumor has Sprint launching the Evo 4G in early June – possibly June 6!
Keep in mind, though, that this rumor is completely unconfirmed and comes to us from the mouth of a sales rep from The Shack (Radio Shack). The rumor goes like this: dude walks into his local Radio Shack, sees promotional flyers for the month-long Sprint Evo 4G marketing campaign, starts snapping some pics, and then talks to the sales rep (who mentions that the handset will go live on or around June 6th).
From what we’re hearing, the HTC-made Sprint Evo will be offered for $200 on-contract, or $600 free and clear of any obligatory agreements with Sprint. The prices sound spot-on for a new smartphone.
Sprint is apparently planning to run an advertising campaign that will focus on different aspects of the Evo 4G on a week-by-week basis. The first week will feature the device’s hardware features : the amazing 4.3-inch capacitive touchscreen with multi-touch capabilities, the 8-megapixel camera (likely a similar camera to the 8MP shooter that impressed us on the HTC Incredible), and the Evo’s mobile hotspot feature (which allows you to use the phone as a portable WiFi router). Week two will showcase the smartphone’s multimedia chops – HD video recording and output (via HDMI port), the web browser that supports Adobe’s Flash technology, and the forward-facing 1.3MP camera. Week three breaks down the details of the Mobile Hotspot feature: connect up to eight WiFi devices to the Evo and use its 4G data connection for data. The final week of Sprint’s Evo 4G launch campaign will highlight the smartphone’s HD-ness: the HD 720p video recording, the high-resolution display, and the ability to output video in HD using the HDMI port.
So, as it stands, we could see the new king of Android phones launching in just a month from now. We’ll have more Evo 4G details for you very soon (next week), so make sure to keep checking the IntoMobile front page. Also, you can subscribe to our RSS feed or follow us on Twitter!
