Samsung Galaxy S gets some promo video action, talks up the Smart Alarm and Super AMOLED display

With the Galaxy S rumored to be launching soon on Vodafone, we’re already starting to see some promo videos of the device. With a very nice set of specs for the device, whatever carrier gets the phone will surely be happy. Too bad we can’t say the same for anyone watching this somewhat lackluster promo.

The promotional video for the Galaxy S is in no way as good as the demonstration that was shown at CTIA earlier this year. But it works. The video showcases some of the features the Galaxy S has that you won’t find on many Android devices today. We’re talking, of course, about things like the Smart Alarm, the Daily Briefing widget, and the 4-inch Super AMOLED display. For a minute and a half of video time, Samsung does a good job covering all the bases of what the Galaxy S can do to differentiate itself from the sea of Android phones currently (or soon to be) on market.

We’re glad to see that there is no full TouchWiz on the device, an instead only minor customizations. The UI on the Behold 2 is absolutely horrible, and it did more to cripple the Android phone than to make it more usable. Still, not even TouchWiz could turn our eyes away from the Galaxy S. With a plethora of features, a gorgeous display that has yet to meet its match, and a GPU that pisses on the competition, the Galaxy S is sure to impress. As much as I love my Nexus One still, that Super AMOLED display is something to be fawned over.

The Galaxy S’s launch carrier (Vodafone) is expected to make the device available soon, others believe that T-Mobile USA actually may have the first go with it. This would surely make many Magenta users happy, as we have yet to see a high-end Android device on the carrier yet. Being the first our of the gate with Android, and having the most Android phones isn’t enough to compete, T-Mo. You need better, higher-end Android offerings.

T-Mobile has been rumored to get some high-end Android devices for sometime now, and the only device that we can confirm in the near-term is the HTC-made T-Mobile MyTouch 3G Slide. The Slide is a mid-ranged device, even though it’s the best Android device the carrier has ever had, and would sit nicely next to the Galaxy S if someone wanted a keyboard. Just don’t expect it to have the kind of performance that Incredible or Nexus One users have been enjoying.

Lets hope the Galaxy S drops somewhere soon. Until then, we’re still playing the guessing game.
