T-Mobile is making a stronger push for the prepaid market and it has introduced two new plans that are a pretty good deal if you don’t want a long-term contract.
In an e-mail to IntoMobile, the fourth-largest U.S. carrier said users will be able to start using the new plans starting Wednesday. The plans are:
$15 Per Month Unlimited Text: Includes unlimited text, picture and video messaging, and nationwide voice calls for $.10 per minute.
$50 Per Month Unlimited Talk and Text: Features unlimited nationwide calling and text, including picture and video messaging, and no per-minute fees.
Technically, you’ll be able to use these plans with any device, including a BlackBerry or Nexus One. It doesn’t appear like smartphone owners are the target though, as the company is pushing the Samsung t239, Motorola W233, Samsung t139 and Nokia 166 with these plans. Additionally, if you use the prepaid plans you won’t be able to use T-Mobile’s equipment installment plans to pay for the handset.
The move comes as the prepaid market in the United States is heating up. Companies like MetroPCS have quietly gathered a large number of subscribers and it will probably have the first Long-Term Evolution handset later this year. Sprint is also making an aggressive push for this market, as it just revamped its prepaid business.
