Palm and webOS fans, take note. Bell is giving you a stern slap in the face with this one. At least that’s how I interpret it.
The good folks at Bell offer a wide variety of smartphones, including the iPhone and many popular BlackBerry and Android-powered devices. They also have the webOS toting Palm Pre as part of their lineup… So, when a new promo page went up on their site, you’d have to think webOS and the App Catalog would be part of the mix, wouldn’t you? Think again.
Check out the page in question right here and start scrolling. As you can see, Bell offers the iPhone, BlackBerry devices and ooooh, the Motorola Dext. Clickable buttons are available for each platform, allowing you to explore more devices and apps available for each. But wait… Where’s the Pre and all of the App Catalog apps?
What you just heard there was an open-handed *slap in the face* to Palm. No mention of the Pre, webOS or the App Catalog to be found anywhere. In fact, to find your way to the Pre you have to click on ‘Other Smartphones’ in the top menu, and on the page that follows you’ll notice the Pre… Which (by the way) is now up-for-grabs for free on a 3-year contract. Stunning.
During a quick chat earlier this morning with Stefan and Simon, the three of us came to a conclusion of sorts that states: ‘nobody gives a **** about webOS’. Of course we say this in jest, but there’s a lot of truth to it… At least, in Canada.
What are your thoughts on this? Is this a sure sign that Bell are moving far, far away from webOS? All things considered, I really am looking forward to a webOS-powered printer 🙂
