BlackBerry Pearl 9100 Coming to Wind Mobile

In their latest promo flyer/brochure/magazine/thing, Wind Mobile has revealed that they’ll be picking up the new BlackBerry Pearl 9100, alongside Bell, Telus, and Rogers who have already begun selling the handset. Such a release was hinted at from the FCC, who approved a version of the Pearl 9100 running on AWS bands, meaning it’ll probably find its way to T-Mobile sooner or later. Pricing will be a big factor for the 9100’s success on Wind, considering the other three’s off-contract pricing ranges between $329.95 and $424.99. As is, Wind is already undercutting the others with the Bold 9700 by around $150,  and if they could keep that standard of competitiveness, the 9100 could be available on Wind for under $300.

The 9100 is basically a shrunk-down 9700 with the added bonus of Wi-Fi 802.11n: GPS, 3G, HVGA display, 3.2 megapixel camera with flash and autofocus, optical trackpad, and SureType keyboard. It’s great that Wind is picking up another BlackBerry, but for the sake of having a wide selection, they really should get an Android handset – whatever happened to the Magic?

Thinking of picking one up? Check out our review of the Pearl 9100 first.
