Rogers has accidentally let slip that they will be offering the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini and Mini Pro by way of their TV On Demand Mobile compatibility list. The older version of the list, shown here, has since been taken down, but the cat’s out of the bag now. No mention of a release date, of course, but the Mini just began shipping at the end of May, so it can’t be far off. Currently, Rogers is offering the bigger brother X10, which introduced their custom the Timescape and Mediascape applications that will also be on the smaller phones.
As a quick recap, the X10 Mini and Mini Pro are some adorably tiny Android 1.6 phones Sony Ericsson announced back at Mobile World Congress. They both have 2.5″ QVGA displays, Wi-Fi, GPS, 3G via HSPA, and 5 megapixel cameras with autofocus and flash; the Pro simply adds a surprisingly usable slide-out QWERTY keypad. The novelty of a handset with the surface area of roughly a business card is huge, but I worry about how practical such a size is. Sony Ericsson have made some necessary tweaks to the software to make it more appropriate for the size (namely by putting common shortcuts into the home screen’s four corners), but we’ll have to spend some more quality time with one to see if it works.
In any case, we’ll keep an eye out for public availability of the X10 Minis on Rogers – in the meantime, you can see some of our hands-on footage.
