Sprint HTC EVO 4G gets the magnetic macro lens treatment – Takes great macro shots, isn’t ugly as sin

With the Sprint HTC EVO 4G toting around an auto-focusing 8-megapixel camera wherever it goes, the hottest Android phone of the year has what it takes to make your candid photos look almost professional in quality. That is, unless you’re planning to get close-up macro shots of a flower or your fingernail clippings. For that, you’ll need a macro lens on the EVO 4G. While it won’t shoot in macro mode straight out of the box, you can get a magnetic macro lens attachment that will transform its high-quality shooter into a high-quality macro shooter.

Even better, the macro lens attachment isn’t bulky and doesn’t look like it fell from the ugly tree whilst hitting every single branch on its way down. The macro adapter is barely larger in diameter than the EVO’s slightly protruding camera lens module and has as subtle an impact on the Android phone’s design as you could hope for. It’s magnetic, so it’ll attach itself to the metal ring around the camera lens. We’re just glad the EVO macro lens attachment doesn’t look like this.

As for image quality, the macro images are just as high quality as we’d expect from the 8-megapixel shooter. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, the auto-focusing camera on the HTC EVO 4G is almost good enough in daylight to replace a standalone digital camera (low-light performance is acceptable, but light years from its daylight performance), and it even lets you focus your shot by tapping a finger on the touchscreen. That same image quality translates well into macro photos. The sample images say it all.

So, where can you pick up a magnetic lens for your Sprint HTC EVO 4G? As Good And Evo points out, eBay, Amazon and Google are your friends.

Head on over to Good And Evo for more sample macro shots. They really are impressive!
