Droid Does: Droid Incredible lets you play Xbox Live from on top of a bridge

Ever been on top of the Bob Kerrey pedestrian bridge with a Verizon HTC Droid Incredible, Xbox, Macbook Pro, HDTV, a couple of speakers, a power supply, and a rack to hold it all to see if you can play Xbox live? No, you probably haven’t, but these guys sure did. They used their hacked-together rig to prove that if you’ve got the the idea (and the time) that you can make some cool stuff happen – namely using a Droid Incredible to play Xbox live from on top of a bridge!

The idea of playing on your gaming console from a higher altitude than my living room has never crossed my mind, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible to accomplish. In the video below, you’ve got the whole set up to make this happen, and that’s just what these guys did. By tethering the HTC Droid Incredible to connect to Xbox live, and all the other peripherals, these guys were able to play Halo without a hitch.

By connecting the Xbox to the Macbook Pro via ethernet, and connecting the and Droid Incredible tethered to the computer using the PDANet Android app, magic was made. It was all powered by the pre-charged power supply, with the exception of the 3G signal from Verizon being a little low, it was possible to get a decent amount of gameplay done. Although the connection was a bit lower than they would have liked, the connection while playing looked to be fairly consistent, with virtually no lag in the game at all.

To keep this set up mobile, they brought a power inverter, enabling them to charge the power supply from the car’s built in cigarette lighter. The TV on the rack can fold down, allowing the entire set up to be placed into the trunk of the car. That’s Mobile Xbox Live if I’ve ever seen it, and although it looks like a lot of effort, it’d be a hit next time you went camping.

Maybe next time they will try it out in space, but I doubt Verizon has a map for that yet.
