Square Enix has been giving a lot of iPhone love as of late and it looks like the iPhone lovin’ isn’t going to stop any time soon. The company is set to release two very big older titles on the iPhone platform, Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of Lions & Secret of Mana.
Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions brought the 1997 fan-favorite game to the PSP in 2007 with many enhancements such as CG movies, additional characters and jobs, and a more accurate English translation. The game’s assistant producer, Hiroaki Iwano-san, assures us that the iPhone version will be the most comfortable to play
We customized the playability for iPhone. Even though I always thought that the touch screen was a better fit for simulation RPGs over a controller, I was concerned by the screen size of iPhone since it looks too small to play the game comfortably. However, we learned so much about utilizing the small screen size of iPhone developing Song Summoner, and I can confidently present Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of Lions for iPhone as the “Final Fantasy Tactics with the most comfortable playability.
As for Secret of Mana, there isn’t much information regarding the title besides that it’ll be available on the iPhone some time this year. Secret of Mana was originally released on the SNES in 1993 and was beloved by those who played it. The mix of action / RPG elements, along with each character’s strengths and weaknesses kept the combat interesting from start to finish. Throw in an unforgettable story and musical score and you have a recipe for a hit on the iPhone.
Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions is expected to release on Sept. 15th, 2010, while Secret of Mana currently has no official release date. Announcement trailers and screenshots can be found below.
